PREPARING FOR ARRIVAL

PREPARING FOR ARRIVAL

2018/2019 STUDENTS

Once you've accepted your UBC Vantage One offer, you MUST complete the following tasks before your arrival:

  • Accept student housing offer
  • Have study permit confirmed
  • Register for courses via SSC

For more information on these three key items, visit our Getting Accepted page.

Once the above is confirmed, it's time to pack and prepare for your arrival at UBC on August 25, 2018.

BOOK YOUR FLIGHT

If you haven't booked your flight already, you will need to arrive at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on August 25, 2018.

Vantage College is offering complimentary transportation for students from the airport to their UBC Residence on August 25, 2018, from 12-4.30pm. Scroll down for further details and how to register for this service.

WHAT TO PACK

In addition to your clothes, toiletries, and electronics, there are several important documents that you need to bring with you as an international student:

  • Passport

  • Letter of Introduction (issued by Canadian visa officers as the approval of your study permit application)

  • Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), depending on your country of citizenship (if you applied for your study permit from a visa office outside Canada and you require a TRV, your TRV will automatically be issued and affixed into your passport)

  • UBC Letter of Acceptance

  • Proof of funds

Make sure these documents are carefully stored in your carry-on luggage, not your checked-in luggage.

The above information is only a guideline, please refer to UBC's 'What to Bring' page for up-to-date advice.

AIRPORT TO CAMPUS

Vantage College is offering complimentary transportation for students from Vancouver International Airport to their UBC Residence on August 25, 2018.
Students who wish to use this service need to fill out our survey to indicate when they will be arriving Vancouver, so that we can accommodate their arrival. The survey will be emailed directly to students in July, at the email address listed in the UBC SSC portal.

If your flight arrives in Vancouver before or after August 25, you will need to make your own transfer arrangements. Other transport options include:

  • Taxi
If you want to take a taxi, there is 24-hour taxi service from the airport. Taxis leaving the airport for destinations around the region, including UBC, use a set price zone fare system.
  • Train/Bus:
The Canada Line is a rapid-transit system that runs from the airport to downtown Vancouver. The Canada Line does not go to UBC but to get to campus, get off at Broadway City Hall and take the 99 B-Line bus to the end of the line.
Depending on the day of the week and time you are leaving the airport, the cost of public transit from the airport ranges from $7.75 to $9.00.
