A recent article from the latest BC TEAL newsletter entitled “Inspirations from the Annual BC TEAL Conference at UBC Vantage College" by Cari-Ann Roberts Gotta (https://www.bcteal.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/TEAL-News-Summer-2018…) features work presented by Vantage faculty and staff.
UBC Vantage College had the privilege of hosting a one-day TESOL Symposium on May 3, 2018, and the 50th annual professional meeting of the Association of British Columbia Teachers of English as an Additional Language (BC TEAL) on May 4-5, 2018. This event, co-organized with members of the BC TEAL organization, was co-chaired by Brian Wilson and Sandra Zappa-Hollman, and supported by dozens of volunteers, including eight faculty members of the Academic English Program team and two Vantage College staff members, who contributed in various capacities (e.g. reviewing proposals, organizing the conference schedule, coordinating the tech-jam sessions, serving as hosts on the event day, and presenting their work). The conference theme of “Space and Pedagogy” brought together over 500 attendees – English as a second language teachers across educational levels - from BC as well as from other provinces (+40 attendees) and from abroad (+15 attendees). The conference program featured three world-renowned plenary speakers in areas of language pedagogy and technology, as well as over +85 concurrent sessions (workshops, teaching and research presentations, educational technologies demonstration sessions), networking events, and Pecha Kucha Presentations.
