Vantage faculty keynote speakers at the Halliday-Hasan International Forum on Language

Two UBC Vantage College faculty members recently featured as keynote speakers at the second Halliday-Hasan International Forum on Language, held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China, from 1-3 December, 2017.

Dr. Sandra Zappa-Hollman, Director of the Academic English Program at Vantage, and Dr. Alfredo Ferreira, a Vantage Academic English Program (AEP) instructor, were invited to report on their unique teachings at the event, which this year focused on 'Registerial Perspectives on Disciplinary English Studies'.

Together, Zappa-Hollman and Ferreira reported on their project “Disciplinary Registers in a First-Year Program: A View from the Context of Curriculum”,  showcasing some of the fabulous, innovative ways in which the teaching and learning of disciplinary English is approached within the Vantage One program.

The event was well attended by a range of colleagues from across China. Other keynote speakers included renowned experts in systemic functional linguistics and language teaching in higher education, Professors Sheena Gardner and David Butt, among others.
