UBC Vantage College delivers an enriched academic experience to top performing high school graduates. Your experience in Vantage One will ensure that you are surrounded by other bright minds from various countries around the world. As such, admission to Vantage College is very competitive. Below you will find the admission criteria to our 4 program streams offered within Vantage One.
STEP 1: ENSURE YOU MEET ALL THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
- you are an international student, which means that you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, please apply directly to your preferred Faculty. You can find the degree that is right for you on UBC’s program page.
- you are graduating from an academic or university preparatory program at a senior secondary school
- you meet the English language and program-specific requirements detailed below
- the admission average is calculated on your final year academic courses/exams.
STEP 2: ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
English is the language of instruction in the Vantage One program. All prospective students must demonstrate English-language competency prior to admission. There are numerous ways to meet the English requirements of Vantage College, but the most common ways are outlined below:
a minimum score of 70 on the TOEFL iBT with no section less than 16
a minimum overall score of 5.5 on the IELTS with a minimum band score of 5.0 in speaking and listening, and 5.5 in reading and writing
Completion of level 400 within the English Fundamentals Program at the UBC English Language Institute.
a minimum overall score of 50 on the CAEL, with a minimum of 40 on the speaking sub-test
English B (HL or SL) with a minimum score of 4; applicants with a score of below 4 in English B or a score of below 3 in English A should demonstrate English competency via one of the tests listed on the UBC Calendar.
STEP 3: PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
The requirements below are here to help you identify the courses you should be completing in high school in order to be eligible for the Vantage One program. It is possible that these courses exist under a different name in your local school system. For course codes and exam requirements for your local region, please consult the main UBC admissions page, and select your country from the drop-down menu. If you are an international student that studied in the Canadian high school curriculum (whether in Canada or abroad), please consult the Canadian admissions webpage for the admission requirements.
