Bio:
Dr. Zappa-Hollman has worked extensively with English language learners  (ELLs) in post-secondary as well as K-12 contexts, teaching English for academic purposes through language and content instruction. She has also worked for many years at UBC’s teacher education program, training future BC high school modern language teachers. In the last few years she’s also served in an administrative role as coordinator of academic writing courses and director of academic English programs. More recently she’s developed an interest in the use of functional grammar approaches to support the academic English literacy development of ELLs across diverse disciplinary fields. Her published research is in the areas of oral academic presentations, academic (discourse) socialization, and intercultural competence development.
