An IELTS 5.5* or TOEFL 70* meets the minimum English entry requirements for Vantage College. Take part in a transformative first-year university experience with students from around the world.

Vantage one progression to year 2 of your UBC degree.

The Vantage One Science and Engineering programs will allow you to complete the first year of your degree and develop your English abilities over the span of 11-months, setting you up for success before you move into the second year of your degree.

Arts

The UBC Vantage One Arts program includes courses in history, sociology, geography, political science, psychology, research and writing, to give you a solid foundation of knowledge in the arts and to strengthen your communication skills.

Science

The Vantage One Science program establishes a foundation of knowledge through a core set of science courses that range from chemistry to calculus, to programming. You will have the option of selecting either a computational science or physical sciences elective.

Engineering

Prepare for UBC’s Engineering programs by choosing the Vantage One Applied Science program. You’ll complete foundational coursework in engineering, chemistry, math, and physics, plus you’ll participate in an engineering design project that culminates in a student-led project fair.

Makafui Hortense Amouzouvi (Togo),  Vantage One Science Alumni

Makafui Hortense Amouzouvi completed the Vantage One Science program in 2020 and was a Vantage One Excellence Award Winner. Makafui, who is from Lome, Togo, details her experience receiving the award, her ambitions in the program and at UBC, and her passion for inspiring girls into pursuing careers in STEM fields.

Visal Saosuo (Cambodia), Vantage One Engineering Alumni

Growing up in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia, Visal always had dreams of leading a research center in his home country one day. He also had the unique experience of beginning his university degree during a global pandemic. Whether trying to connect with peers, or staying engaged with courses with instructors half-way across the globe, Visal persevered and successfully transitioned into the second year of his engineering degree.
